Our story began with a cherished Biltong recipe passed down from our beloved Oupa—Afrikaans for “grandfather.” He taught us the art of working with meat, blending spices, and crafting mouthwatering biltong for everyone to enjoy.
To this day, our biltong is crafted with the same love and care that Oupa instilled in us. We continued making biltong—along with many of Oupa’s other treasured family recipes—in our own kitchen, sharing them with family, friends, and our local community. As we watched our loved ones and neighbors enjoy these flavorful traditions, we began to wonder: could we share Oupa’s legacy with the rest of the world?
Today, we’re a proud family-owned business with a deep passion for sharing the rich traditions of South Africa with the world. Whether you’re a seasoned oke from Mzansi or discovering it for the first time, we’re honored to bring the bold flavors, natural taste, and rich heritage of Oupa’s Biltong into your home.

Our name, Baya Biltong, is inspired by the Baya Weaver bird (Ploceus philippinus), known for its hanging nests woven from long strips of leaves and grass. Just as the Baya Weaver is known for its patience and precision, we take the same care in our craft—carefully seasoning, hanging, and drying our biltong to achieve the perfect texture and rich, authentic flavor.
Made exclusively from USDA-certified meat, our products are completely pork-free and contain no preservatives or added sugars. Whether you’re craving the rich flavors of our signature Biltong, the bold kick of Spicy Chili Bites, or the taste of classic Droëwors, we have something for everyone. From our kitchen to yours, it’s our honor to share these favorite snacks—and a taste of South Africa—with you.
